What is a sanitary cabin?

A sanitary cabin is a portable cabin that leaves the factory already fitted out as a toilet, washroom or shower room. It is the term the modular cabin industry uses; UK buyers more often say toilet cabin or welfare cabin, and hire companies say site welfare. They are the same thing, which is worth knowing when you are comparing units across suppliers who use different words for identical products.

What separates them from a plastic portable loo is the build. These are galvanised anti-vandal steel framed buildings, insulated and lined in wipe-clean white panel, plumbed with real WCs and basins, and craned into position rather than lifted by hand. They connect to mains water and drainage and are built to stay outdoors for years. If there are no services on site at all, a recirculating flush toilet solves the same problem without any connection, and our portable toilet buyers guide sets out when each one makes sense.

Every unit on this page is brand new and sold outright rather than hired. If you are weighing the two, we have written up the arithmetic in buy or hire a welfare cabin.

Common questions

What is a sanitary cabin?
A sanitary cabin is a factory-built portable cabin fitted out as a toilet, washroom or shower room before it leaves the works. Sanitary cabin is the term used across the European modular cabin industry; in the UK the same unit is usually called a toilet cabin or a site welfare cabin. Ours are built on a galvanised anti-vandal steel frame, insulated and lined in wipe-clean white panel, and craned into position on site.
Is a sanitary cabin the same as a toilet cabin?
Yes. The two names describe the same product and we use them interchangeably. Sanitary cabin is the manufacturing term and tends to cover anything plumbed, from a single WC through to a shower room, while toilet cabin and welfare cabin are the names UK buyers and hire companies use for the same units.
What sizes do sanitary cabins come in?
Our in-stock range runs from a 5ft single WC and basin cabin, through 8ft units with a WC and urinal, a WC and shower or twin WCs, to a 10ft accessible WC cabin, a 10ft block with four WCs and a 20ft mens and accessible toilet block. Anything outside that is made to order to your own floor plan.
Does a sanitary cabin need mains water and drainage?
The plumbed cabins do. They arrive complete and connect to mains water and drainage on site, which is usually a job of minutes once the connections are in place. If you have no services at all, a recirculating flush toilet is the alternative: it carries its own water and waste tanks and needs no connection whatsoever.
Can you buy a sanitary cabin outright instead of hiring?
Yes, and that is all we do. Every unit is sold outright and brand new, never ex-hire, so there is no weekly charge, no minimum term and nothing to hand back. The unit is yours to keep, relocate between sites or sell on.
How quickly can a sanitary cabin be delivered?
In-stock units go out on a lead time measured in days rather than weeks. Delivery is quoted by postcode and by how you want it offloaded, either standard flatbed where you offload, or HIAB crane offload where you do not have plant on site.
Why buy, not hire

Buy it once, use it for years

Fitted at the factory

Every welfare unit leaves the factory with its WCs, urinals, wash basins, water heaters and showers already plumbed in. Nothing to assemble on site and no fit-out crew to book.

In use the same day

We deliver the toilet cabin anywhere in the UK by flatbed and you offload it into position with a forklift or telehandler (or ask us about a HIAB crane offload). Your plumber connects mains water, waste and power, and the block is open by the afternoon.

Built anti-vandal

Insulated steel toilet cabins on a galvanised anti-vandal frame, in a choice of RAL colours, lockable and weatherproof. The jackleg-style build stands up to years of site use, moves from job to job, and holds its resale value.

Only covering a two-week event? Hire is cheaper. Buying wins once the unit stays six months or more, or when you'll reuse it across jobs.
